What to Expect
Your First Visit
Patients come for a variety of reasons to Lavender House Acupuncture and Wellness Clinic. Some struggle with mental health, some suffer from acute illness, and some want to take a preventative approach to health and wellness.
Regardless of the reason for your visit, if being well, feeling cared for, and maintaining your health is what you strive for, you have come to the right place. I provide a comfortable, safe place to support you and help you achieve balance and wellness.
First visits always start with the Consent Form and Intake Form. When booking online you will be prompted through the questions, and we will go over everything during your first visit. I’ll have a few additional questions, to determine which treatment is the most suitable for you. I will also take a look at your tongue and take your pulse (on both wrists, in several spots) to complete my assessment.
I take notes during our discussions, and you can feel free to ask as many questions about the treatment as you wish. Some patients want to know every detail, while others just want to concentrate on the treatment – either way is fine!
Most acupoints used are from the elbow to the hands, knees to feet, and abdomen, so I recommend wearing clothes that are comfortable and make these areas easily accessible.
Once the acupuncture treatment starts, I explain every step as we proceed. Many patients are hesitant at first, because they have a fear of needles. I can assure you, that “pain” should never be part of an acupuncture treatment. Some people don’t feel anything at all, some feel a dull sensation when the needles are adjusted. Many report a feeling of relaxation and wellbeing, that sets in after the needles have been in place for a few minutes. An acupuncture treatment takes about 20 – 25 minutes, once the needles are in place, and the needles may get adjusted several times during that period.
I often get asked whether it’s ok to talk, or not to talk, during the treatment. That is also entirely up to you, do whatever feels comfortable! I will be with you during the entire treatment, I never leave patients alone with needles in.
It’s important for me to provide a welcoming, encouraging atmosphere without any judgement, to make your visit at Lavender House Acupuncture and Wellness Clinic a catalyst for health and wellbeing.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any more questions, or book your appointment online.
